Had a gentleman take our picture at the Calico I scenic stop. The sandstone formations are pretty interesting. There is both red and white sandstone.
Wind and rain help to form the rocks over time. So many intersting shapes. Making our way to Calico II
I found a cave to hop into.
Checking out the nooks and crannies.
Just a few flowers out. Would be more if they had had some rain prior to today. They had been without rain for 85 days. The white/black item is a burned Yucca stalk.
Red Rock Canyon is known for climbers from all over the world. This is one of many areas theytest their skills on. None seen while we are there. They ask climbers not to climb for 48 hours after a rain, due to slippery rocks.
I thought this formation looked like an elephant.
Wonder how fluffy these flowers would look if they had not been beaten down with rain.
And up we go......
Ken made it up to this next location - now to get back down. haha
Great long range look at the various rocks, levels and never ending landscape.
Don't know what type of tree this is, but the rich colors in the trunk really caught my attention.
Another panoramic view over Pine Creek Canyon, part of the Red Rock Canyon State Park.
Overall it was a nice day. But that location had the most rain of the entire area. And it was abotu 10 degrees colder than closer to our hotel. It was about 50 and rainy. We were layered okay.
On Saturday we went to Spring Valley Nature preserve. It was suppose to rain today and it never did. The reserve is a wonderful place with museum type displays, gardens, history of Las Vegas, Geology of Nevada. It was worth the visit.
We leave Vegas on Sunday and head to Death Valley.
