Marina di Ragusa ride - May 17, 2014

Today was a ride of 23 miles, some long but not steep uphill and lots of fast downhill. We decided not to do the afternoon ride as it was a 12 - 13% grade up hill on it's return. Pretty steep and for a long haul.

In the country. A little busier with cars than I would like, but the Italians are all very considerate of bicyclists. Beautiful farn lands along the way.
Ahead is Ken with Steve and Anne, who are from Wisconsin. Checking the written directions for our next turn. Only got lost or slightly misdirected once today. That is part of the adventure. One of the woman got separated from the group with a long turn and ended up with a short cut to our intended destination and got there an hour before the first of our group. Like riders tend to group together. We don't all go together as a group.
Saw a few cows and these horses along the way. Keep seeing this bird I will get a picture of. I think it is a magpie.

This was our long downhill slope and we are starting to see the Mediterraian Sea, which is our destination for today's ride.
Village of Punta Secca and their lighthouse. Needed to use a bathroom  - and a bar was the only option. But they also served Gelato - so to thank him for using his toilet, I bought a Gelato  - Lemon and Strawberry and sat by the seaside to eat it.  Yum.
There is a Sicilian Author Andrea CAmilleri who has written stories about Inspector Montalbano. They are all using Sicilian towns for the setting. It is a TV series in Eurpoe. The author lives in PUnta Secca.
Once in Marina di Ragusa - had to see just how cold the water was.......... It was very cold. Ken kept telling me to back up for a better picture, What he was trying to do was to get me to back up where the waves were a little taller so he could snap a picture of me getting soaked. I knew what he was up to and did not oblige.
An anchor commemorating the sailors at this town. This town was demolished in WW-II.

Sunday we ride to Scicli and Modica to our next hotel. The hotel chef will teach us how to prepare a Sicilian dish - which will be our dinner. UhOh.
