Volcanic ash. Taromina - The last time the volcano here - Mt Etna errupted was 2004. We will be hiking up there on Thursday.

One of the center areas of the town. This shows evidence of many cultures. This is an arabic tower. The opposite wall is that of christians.
The narrowest street in Sicily. I think our guide said in the world, but I think we heard that story on another trip. haha

The town square, next to the water fountain is a drinking fountain.
While on the path up a zig zag trail to the monastary, here is the town of Taromina and the Greek Theater. This theater in it's day held 5000 people. Today when we went there, they were putting in sound systems and lights for an upcoming concert.
On the zig zag trail up to a church and the monastary, there were the stations of the cross. One other couple we passed on the way up were stopped and the husband said they were doing their penance, at each station. It was a steep climb but there were stairs.
All in all Wednesday 5/14 was a good day. We had dinner later in the evening with an older gentleman who is part of our group. While he is here on teh bike trip, his wife is with a friend in Rome. Hope to meet a few more members of the group on Thursday and the rest on Friday.
